From acclaimed Italian filmmaker Elio Petri comes A Quiet Place in the Country (1968), a hypnotic and surreal psychological horror thriller exploring artistic obsession, mental instability and the terrifying uncertainty between reality and the supernatural. Starring Franco Nero and Vanessa Redgrave!

Leonardo Ferri is a highly successful painter suffering from a severe emotional crisis. Searching for peace and artistic inspiration, he retreats to an ancient villa in Italy's Veneto region.

At first, the isolated countryside residence seems like the perfect place to recover his creativity. However, strange and disturbing events soon begin to unfold.

Unexplained noises echo through the rooms, doors close by themselves and objects mysteriously fall without warning.

Leonardo becomes increasingly fascinated by a portrait of a young woman hanging on one of the villa's walls.

As his obsession deepens, he begins to believe that the house is inhabited by the spirit of the mysterious woman. When the supernatural presence appears to threaten his lover Flavia, the boundary between reality and imagination becomes dangerously blurred.

Is the villa truly haunted, or are the terrifying events manifestations of Leonardo's deteriorating mental state?

Directed by Elio Petri, A Quiet Place in the Country blends psychological horror, surreal imagery and unsettling suspense into a distinctive work of Italian cinema.
