A married Sicilian baron falls in love with his young cousin and becomes determined to marry her. There's just one problem: divorce is illegal. He therefore concocts an increasingly devious plan to get rid of his wife by engineering what he hopes can be treated as a crime of passion.

Directed by Pietro Germi, the 1961 Divorce Italian Style (Divorzio all'italiana) blends dark comedy, romance and social satire. Marcello Mastroianni leads the cast alongside Daniela Rocca, Stefania Sandrelli, Leopoldo Trieste, Lando Buzzanca and Pietro Tordi.
