Set in the Soviet Union in 1937, Two Prosecutors follows Kornev, an idealistic government-appointed prosecutor who attempts to uncover the mistreatment of an imprisoned dissident Bolshevik writer.

The writer has been imprisoned and tortured without evidence of wrongdoing. As Kornev investigates, he gradually begins to realise that the arbitrary nature of the man's imprisonment is far from an isolated case under Stalin's regime. At the same time, the young lawyer's determination to act according to his conscience may place him in danger.

Ukrainian filmmaker Sergey Loznitsa's historical drama-thriller is a precise examination of the horrors of totalitarian bureaucracy and the mechanisms that allow oppression to function. The film is based on a novel by Soviet writer and political prisoner Georgi Demidov.
