On a farm in northeastern Germany, the lives of four generations of women unfold across more than a century. Alma, Erika, Angelika and Lenka grow up in the same place during different eras. Although they never meet, their experiences, fears, joys and losses begin to echo across generations.

The walls of the farmhouse retain traces of the past while the turbulent history of Germany casts its shadow over their lives. Gradually, the boundaries between different periods begin to blur and the women's destinies become mysteriously intertwined.

Directed by Mascha Schilinski, Sound of Falling (In die Sonne schauen) is a haunting and poetic drama about memory, family, generational trauma and the lasting traces of the past. The film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
